The NBMS has a variety of committees that lead important initiatives and provide direction to the society on relevant issues. We are always looking for more physicians willing to sit on these committees.

Standing Committees

Advocacy and Engagement Committee

The purpose of the Advocacy and Engagement Committee is to guide the development and implementation of advocacy strategies and engagement initiatives that advance the NBMS’s mission to improve healthcare in New Brunswick.

The Committee will focus on healthcare advocacy, stakeholder relations, public engagement, and member outreach to strengthen NBMS’s impact on the healthcare system.

Economics Committee

The purpose of the Economics Committee is to review and make recommendations to the Board on matters of physician compensation, health policy and economics.

The Committee may receive reports and may consider issues of economic consequence from all representative sections, committees, working groups or other stakeholders on matters of physician compensation, health policy and economics.

Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee

The purpose of the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee is to assist the Board in fulfilling its legal and fiduciary obligations of financial reporting, accounting, auditing, compliance, regulated reporting, and oversite of organizational risk management matters.

The Committee provides oversight of the NBMS human resources strategy and reporting. Through coordination with the CEO Performance and Compensation Subcommittee, the Committee ensures annual CEO performance management and compensation adjustments.

Negotiations Committee

The purpose of the Negotiations Committee is to negotiate on behalf of all members of the New Brunswick Medical Society as the formal bargaining agent for the profession. The Committee will develop negotiations strategies, priorities and approaches to achieve the organization’s economic and related goals in the best interests of all members.

Subcommittees

AFP Advisory Subcommittee

The AFP Advisory Subcommittee consists of representatives from the Department of Health, the Regional Health Authorities, and the New Brunswick Medical Society. The primary function of the subcommittee is to collaboratively address new and ongoing negotiations issues related to the creation and maintenance of AFPs.

Practice Support Advisory Working Group

The purpose of the Practice Support Advisory Working Group is to serve members by providing guidance on the start-up phase of the NBMS Practice Support Program for New Brunswick physicians. The Working Group will provide oversight and guidance to staff on the implementation of program supports.
