Accessing Patient Medical Records

The NBMS often receives inquiries from patients seeking their medical records. If a patient is interested in accessing their record, they should contact their family physician.

When a physician decides to retire or close their practice, they will notify their patients at least 90 days in advance of closing. Patients can request that a copy of their records be provided to them or transferred to another physician. Once the practice has been closed, medical records are transferred to safe storage facilities like DOCUdavit or RASCI. If patients would like copies of their records, we encourage them to inquire with their physician as soon as possible.
