NBMS Committee Nominations

Thank you for your interest in the committees of the NBMS. These committees lead important initiatives and provide direction to the Society on relevant issues. Please fill out the form below if you would like to self-nominate or nominate one of your colleagues for a seat on one of our committees. Your nomination will be reviewed by the Governance Committee. Recommendations made by the Governance Committee will go to the Board of Directors or the CEO for final approval.

About the NBMS


The New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) represents physicians in New Brunswick, advocating for their interests and supporting a thriving health care system. Guided by our mission, the NBMS promotes better health, quality care, and a strong physician workforce. 

The NBMS is a membership association governed by a Board of Directors responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight within the framework of provincial legislation and internal bylaws. Board members ensure sound governance and fiduciary responsibility while advancing the collective purpose of the NBMS.

The NBMS is committed to fostering inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility, reflecting the varied perspectives of the physician community and the populations we serve. Embracing diverse experiences and backgrounds ensures innovation, enhances decision-making, and supports the development of equitable solutions to health care challenges. 

Role of the Committees


NBMS committees are responsible for: 

  • Strategic Leadership: Advancing the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the NBMS. 
  • Governance: Facilitating effective governance and implementing the strategic vision of the organization through effective operations. 
  • Engagement: Attend and actively participate in committee meetings, thoroughly review materials, and contribute to decision-making processes. 
  • Physician Advocacy and Representation: Advocating for sustainable solutions to health care challenges and representing physician interests. 
  • Patient Advocacy: Enhancing the public image of the NBMS and engaging stakeholders to advance organizational goals. 

Expectations of Individual Committee Members


Each Committee member is expected to: 

  • Understand the Mission: Be knowledgeable about the NBMS’s mission, policies, and programs. 
  • Actively Participate: Attend and contribute meaningfully to committee meetings, reviewing materials in advance. 
  • Advocate: Serve as an ambassador for the NBMS, leveraging networks to enhance the NBMS’s visibility and influence. 
  • Foster Inclusivity: Respect and integrate diverse perspectives to inform committee decisions and promote a culture of equity and collaboration. 
  • Engage: Contribute to specific areas of governance or operational focus.

Additional Information


  • Policies: All committee members must sign and adhere to the NBMS Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest and IDEA policies, which outline expectations regarding confidentiality, conflicts of interest, fiduciary duties, and communications. 
  • Time Commitment: Committees meet approximately 2 to 6 times per year, with meetings lasting 1 to 3 hours. Additional meetings may be convened as needed. Meetings are held virtually, with occasional in-person sessions. New committee members receive onboarding materials and orientation. 
  • Compensation: Committee members receive honoraria for preparation and attendance time for both Board and committee work. Travel expenses are reimbursed where applicable.
