Medical Society, government ratify new four-year agreement

FREDERICTON – The provincial government and the New Brunswick Medical Society have ratified a new four-year Physician Services Agreement that will help ensure New Brunswick is competitive with other provinces in terms of physician recruitment and retention while improving access to primary care.

“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with the province,” said society president Dr. Lise Babin. “The 2025-2029 Physician Services Agreement is a landmark investment of approximately $270 million that will strengthen our health-care system and improve New Brunswick’s capacity to support our physicians and their patients.”

The new agreement, which is retroactive to April 1, 2025, and expires March 31, 2029, will position the province to catch up and keep up with the rest of Canada in terms of physician earnings across all specialty areas.

“This agreement will transform primary health care in New Brunswick through innovative payment models for physicians, targeted investments in support of collaborative care clinics, and clear accountability frameworks that will help ensure the increased funding is tied to patient attachment and timely access to care,” said Dr. Babin.
