The New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) hosted the 2025 Celebration of Medicine awards in St. Andrews by-the-Sea on May 31st.
The recipients included physicians, resident physicians, and students who have made positive contributions to patient care and our profession.
Award Recipients
NBMS Order of Merit
In recognition of a physician who has made an outstanding commitment and contribution to the profession.
Dr. Gregg MacLean
Saint John
Dr. Gregg Maclean has served the Saint John community as a neurologist since 1989.In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Maclean played a key role in launching the Telestroke system in New Brunswick and was instrumental in establishing the province’s first multiple sclerosis (MS) clinic.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Maclean enjoys golfing and reading.
Dr. Maclean would like to thank the many nurses who helped in the development of the telestroke system and MS clinic.
Dr. Édouard Hendriks Rural Community Physician Award
In recognition of a rural practicing physician who has made an outstanding contribution to the health of individuals, to various community groups, and/or to non-profit organizations in rural communities.
Dr. Daniel Fletcher
Harvey
Dr. Daniel Fletcher has been practising Family Medicine in Harvey, since 2012.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Fletcher spearheaded the ‘Harvey Activity Challenge’ as part of the ParticipACTION Challenge. Using his advocacy skills as a family physician, he engaged health centre staff, community leaders and volunteers to involve the entire Harvey area. This saw the Harvey community named as the ‘Most Active Community’ in Atlantic Canada.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Fletcher is passionate about promoting community recreation and wellness. He enjoys playing sports and actively contributes to his community as Chair of both the Harvey Community Network and the Harvey Community Hospital Foundation. He also serves on several boards, including the Harvey Beautification Committee.
Dr. Fletcher would like to thank his family for the continuous support throughout his career, as well as the entire Harvey community of leaders and volunteers for working along initiatives to better the rural area.
Humanitarian Award
In recognition of a physician who has demonstrated a humanitarian spirit through volunteer work, advocacy, leadership and/or philanthropy in their community or around the world.
Dr. Stéphane Paulin
Oromocto
Dr. Stéphane Paulin has been practising Family Medicine in Fredericton and Oromocto, since 2004.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Paulin is a strong advocate for physician wellness and played a key role in modernizing licensing in New Brunswick to focus on functional status rather than mental health diagnoses—removing a major barrier to seeking help. He is a founding member of the first Family Medicine New Brunswick group and contributes to the Physician Stewardship Group, helping to shape family medicine and leadership in the province. He is a passionate advocate for safe and supportive medical education, working to create inclusive environments for students, residents, and physicians through early intervention and non-discriminatory practices.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Paulin enjoys travelling, golf, reading and volunteering at Hospice Fredericton.
Dr. Paulin would like to thank his wife, Marsha, and his children, Alexandre and Isabelle, for their unwavering love, support and encouragement. Dr. Paulin would also like to thank his colleagues and friends, whose collaboration and dedication has inspired Dr. Paulin every step of the way.
NBMS Wellness Award
In recognition of a physician who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, commitment, and dedication in promoting physician wellness within the medical community.
Dr. Chantal Arsenault
Moncton
Dr. Chantal Arsenault has been practising Family Medicine in Moncton since 1993.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Arsenault promotes empowerment, humanity, resilience, creativity, respect and gratitude in her diagnostic and therapeutic approach with patients.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Arsenault enjoys singing, playing piano, skiing, salmon fishing and volunteering for many organizations.
Dr. Arsenault would like to thank Dr. Luc Cormier, the “heart doctor with a big heart”, for being a unifying leader, and for always have the best interest of the Dumont UHC at heart.
Dr. Garfield Moffatt Teaching Award – Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick
In recognition of a physician for their outstanding contributions to improving physician and/or patient education.
Dr. Anand Irrinki
Fredericton
Dr. Anand Irrinki has been practising Family Medicine in Fredericton since 1999.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Irrinki has been teaching and forming relationships with medical students for many years.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Irrinki enjoys playing pickleball and tennis, collecting sports memorabilia, and coaching Varsity Girls soccer as well as Varsity Men’s badminton at Fredericton High School.
Dr. Irrinki extends his heartfelt gratitude to his wife, Wendy, and their two children, Ethan and Danielle, for their unwavering support throughout his journey in medicine and medical education. He is especially thankful to Dr. Michael Perley, his preceptor since his first year of medical school, whose mentorship has been instrumental in shaping his training and philosophy in Family Medicine. Finally, Dr. Irrinki wishes to thank his office partner, Dr. Stephen Hart, along with his dedicated staff, Gene and Christine, for their continued support in training residents and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Dr. Garfield Moffatt Teaching Award – Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick

Dr. Johanne Robichaud
Caraquet
Dr. Johanne Robichaud has been practising Family Medicine in Caraquet since 2006.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Robichaud has led the teaching project in the Acadian Peninsula since its inception in 2006, playing a key role in training numerous students and residents in family medicine. During her early years of practice, she was part of a team that helped restore medical services in the Acadian Peninsula, including the reopening of the Emergency Department and acute care beds in Caraquet. She also worked to secure continued emergency and hospitalization services in Tracadie, preventing further cuts to healthcare services for the region’s population.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Robichaud enjoys reading, carpentry, travelling and camping.
Dr. Robichaud would like to thank her colleagues, friends, and teachers, as well as her administrative staff. Also, she would like to thank the entire Moncton medical training team, and lastly, her family – their endless support does not go unnoticed.
Dr. Donald Morgan Physician Leadership Award
In recognition of a physician who demonstrates excellence in the medical profession and whose actions are a source of inspiration for other physicians, be it clinical medicine, research, or organizational medicine.
Dr. André Aucoin
Edmundston
Dr. André Aucoin has been practising General Surgery in Edmundston since 1993.
One of his most significant accomplishments was pursuing additional training in thoracic surgery to ensure that residents of the greater Edmundston region would continue to have local access to this vital service following the retirement of the previous surgeon.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Aucoin enjoys fishing and marble sculpting.
Dr. Aucoin would like to thank his life partner and dear wife, Francine.
Iype/Wilfred Resident Award
In recognition of a resident physician who has demonstrated outstanding achievements during their residency training in New Brunswick. More specifically this award recognizes achievements in research, professionalism, compassion and caring.
Dr. Élyse Gendron
Moncton
Dr. Élyse Gendron has been practising Family Medicine in Moncton since 2023.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gendron is deeply passionate about building meaningful connections with her patients beyond just medical knowledge. She approaches everyone with empathy and compassion, taking the time to truly understand their unique stories and needs.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Gendron enjoys playing sports, cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering.
Dr. Gendron would like to thank her family, especially her parents, Denis and Denise Gendron. Their unwavering support, love and encouragement has modeled her into the physician she is.

Dr. Kathleen MacMillan
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Dr. Kathleen MacMillan began her residency in 2023, and has practiced in Miramichi, Saint John and Moncton, as well as Halifax.
In addition to her residency, Dr. MacMillan is the Chair of the Canadian Association of Radiologists Resident and Fellow Section. her role entails representing all Canadian Radiology residents nationally and serving as the resident representative on the CAR Board where she advocates for resident interests.
Outside of medicine, Dr. MacMillan enjoys spending quality time with her husband, two cats, and dog, and is excited to be welcoming a baby girl to their family in July. She is actively involved in several committees and boards, including serving as a volunteer with Resident Doctors of Canada, a board member with Maritime Resident Doctors, and as the founder of the Miramichi Medical Mentorship Program, among others.
Dr. MacMillan wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to her husband, Alex, her parents, Stewart and Cheryl MacMillan, and her grandmothers, Erna and Velma, for their unwavering support. She is also deeply thankful to her many long-standing mentors, preceptors, administrators, and the research staff at Dalhousie Radiology in Halifax for their guidance and encouragement. In addition, Dr. MacMillan extends her appreciation to the numerous committees and associations that have supported her throughout her medical journey and continue to do so today.

Jérémie Cyr
Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick
Jérémie is an aspiring family physician currently attending the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick. Jérémie has completed clerkships in Moncton, Dieppe, Tracadie, Caraquet, Bathurst and Edmundston.
One of Jérémie’s most notable achievements to date is his work as a member of the Student Council, where he has organized various presentations and events aimed at alleviating stress and supporting his New Brunswick peers in their medical studies. These initiatives also help prepare them for the CaRMS match.
Outside of medicine, Jérémie enjoys rock climbing and doing improv.
Jérémie would like to thank his parents for their unconditional support throughout his life, especially during his medical journey.

Katie Gowlett
Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick
Katie began her medical studies at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick in August 2022 and is expected to graduate in May 2026. She is currently completing her Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship in Miramichi, New Brunswick. One of Katie’s most significant achievements to date is her transition from a registered nurse to a medical student. She has successfully integrated her nursing background with her medical training, developing a unique and compassionate approach to patient care.
Outside of medical school, Katie enjoys camping, cooking, playing board games, and coaching Senior Varsity Girls Basketball at Harbour View High School.
Katelyn would like to thank her partner Christopher for his love and care, as well as her preceptors that have influenced her practice as a future physician.
