Approximately 25 per cent of New Brunswick physicians are salaried employees of the Government of New Brunswick.

The NBMS plays an important role in shaping the terms of service of salaried physicians. The NBMS staff and the Salaried Economics Committee, comprised of salaried physicians from family medicine and other specialties, work with government to manage the day-to-day employment and remuneration issues that may arise for salaried physicians. As of 2016, all physicians compensated pursuant to the Medical Pay Plan (MPP) are represented by the NBMS in formal negotiations for all matters related to compensation and benefits.
