President’s Letter – June 8
Dear colleagues,
Today the NBMS is launching its 2026 Physician Health Survey. NBMS Wellness will once again use the insights gathered to inform program development and advocacy efforts, with a continued focus on practical, actionable interventions to improve physician health.
Thank you for your continued participation and commitment to enhancing the well-being of our health-care community. Your participation in this survey is invaluable. Completing the survey should take approximately 15 minutes.
All participation is voluntary and anonymous. However, members who wish to leave their name will be entered into a draw to win a full rebate of their 2026 NBMS membership fee. If the individual drawn is a Student or Retired Member, a gift of equivalent value will be awarded.
I highly encourage you to provide your thoughts and feedback so we can better serve you. The survey will remain open until July 6th at 11:59 p.m.

The NBMS launched our first Physician Health Survey in 2022 to delve deeper into the factors contributing to high burnout rates and low professional fulfillment, as highlighted in the 2021 CMA Physician Health Survey. The data collected aimed to inform program development and advocacy efforts by NBMS Wellness. With nearly 600 respondents, we found that while NB physicians were actively working on their personal health and well-being, the principal contributing factors pointed to systemic issues within the NB health-care system.
We presented these findings to over 200 physicians and leaders across the province. The primary recommendation from these presentations was to establish a Physician Health and Wellness Task Force, aimed at adopting a system-level perspective to better understand and address physician health through targeted interventions.
A second survey was rolled out in 2024 to help us gain a deeper understanding of the state of physician health in New Brunswick, and to compare findings with the 2022 results. In response to this data, the NBMS has implemented targeted programs, including the Physician Health Network, Physician Lounge Fund, Social Engagement Fund, and dedicated funding for Medical Staff Offices.
