Compensation Program for Medical Liability Protection Costs

As part of the negotiated Master Fee Agreement with the Province of New Brunswick, private practice and salaried physicians employed by the province are eligible for partial reimbursement of their medical liability protection costs. The compensation program is funded by NB Medicare and is administered by the NBMS.

Since most New Brunswick physicians obtain medical liability coverage through the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), the formula for the compensation program is based upon the risk categories established by the CMPA.

To facilitate the assessment process and expedite reimbursement to physicians, the NBMS Board of Directors has mandated that the CMPA Electronic Transfer of physician payment information be the ONLY method accepted for assessing physicians who maintain coverage with CMPA. Eligible physicians who maintain coverage with other companies must submit appropriate supporting documentation to the NBMS for reimbursement assessment.

CMPA payment information needed to calculate compensation will be automatically provided to the NBMS unless the physician directs the CMPA to withhold it.

Additional program details such as eligibility criteria, payment cycle, and payment statements are available through My Account.
