New Brunswick’s health-care crisis can’t wait any longer

FREDERICTON – Healthcare has never been more important than it is today. As the representative of physicians in our province, the New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) is committed to addressing the urgent needs of our health system. For the past several months, we have been advocating for better primary care access, better preventative care and better, more comprehensive supports for our health system.

With the date for New Brunswick’s next provincial election now set and campaigning underway, the NBMS is eager to learn more about each candidate’s plans for addressing these critical gaps in our health-care system.

“Nothing is more important than our health,” said NBMS president, Dr. Paula Keating. “We sincerely hope that health-care reform is the cornerstone of every candidate’s platform, and that New Brunswickers keep this crucial issue top of mind when heading to the polls October 21st.”

To facilitate this, the NBMS is launching a campaign to raise awareness about the health-care crisis and the impacts it is having on the lives of patients and physicians.

The campaign features statements from patients (Facebook, X, LinkedIn), videos of New Brunswick physicians sharing their unique experiences within the health-care system, and summaries of each candidate’s stance on healthcare.

Our health-care system is managed by the province, and the sitting government holds tremendous power over how it functions. Physicians want New Brunswickers to know that their vote matters and the candidates must make health system improvements a priority.

We need bold, generational investment in our health-care system.  The best time for change was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.
