New Brunswick Medical Society Welcomes New President

The New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) is pleased to introduce 2026-2027 President, Dr. Carl Boucher.

Dr. Boucher is a family physician who has been practising in the Acadian Peninsula since 2009. Born and raised in Caraquet, New Brunswick, he completed his pre-medical studies at the Université de Moncton (Shippagan campus) in 2003. He obtained his medical degree from the Université de Sherbrooke in 2007, followed by a residency in family medicine at the Dieppe Family Medicine Unit.

For the first several years of his career, Dr. Boucher maintained a general practice consisting of office-based longitudinal care, emergency medicine, and hospitalist services. In 2011, he transitioned to full-time emergency medicine, a role he held until 2018. Since then, he has gradually returned to office-based longitudinal care and hospitalist responsibilities. He is currently the owner of a family medicine clinic in Caraquet and is in the process of developing a Collaborative Care Team in partnership with the Vitalité Health Network.

Dr. Boucher has been very active with the NBMS since 2018. He initially joined the Board of Directors as the representative for the Acadie–Bathurst region, where he completed two consecutive three-year terms. During this time, he served as Vice-Chair of the Governance Review Committee, which led to significant modernization of the NBMS structure and governance model, including substantial changes to board and committee composition. In 2024 and 2025, he was a member of the negotiating committee responsible for a landmark Physician Services Agreement, which is expected to transform primary care delivery in New Brunswick. He was named President-Elect of the NBMS in 2024.

Throughout his NBMS board service, Dr. Boucher has consistently advocated for rural healthcare across New Brunswick, including adequate remuneration, funding and staffing to ensure smaller communities and hospitals thrive. As President, he intends to continue prioritizing the improvement of healthcare delivery in rural regions. He also aims to continue promoting and advancing the benefits of the Physician Services Agreement negotiated last year, and to increase the province’s focus on preventative and population health.

Dr. Boucher assumes spokesperson responsibilities for the Society effective immediately. His photo and additional information can be found on the NBMS website here.
