Thank you to all who joined us last night for Public Health’s information session on the COVID-19 vaccination program.   We had 311 physicians join us via Zoom to view a presentation and ask questions of Dr. Jennifer Russell, Chief Medical Officer of Health; Dr. Cristin Muecke, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health; and Dr. Heidi Liston, Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Health. This is an extremely challenging period for our province with double-digit COVID-19 cases being announced daily. Public Health and government have said that this week will be critical in our fight against this virus. Recent updates have been disheartening, but we must not lose hope. As of this writing, more than 10,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in our province, many to health-care providers. We are beginning the year with the unfortunate but not unexpected news of COVID-19 spreading rapidly following the holiday season. I remain optimistic that with Public Health’s guidance, the dedication of health-care professionals, and the co-operation of New Brunswickers, we will get this under control in short order. We have reached the end of a challenging year. I would like to thank each of you for your unwavering efforts to care for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our province has not been subjected to the worst of the pandemic like many other jurisdictions have and much of that credit goes to the hard work provided by Public Health leaders and frontline physicians.
