Medical Society presents sculpture to New Brunswickers in honour of 150th anniversary
The New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) officially presented a sculpture to the City of Fredericton today.
“The doctors of New Brunswick are honoured to be able to present this sculpture to the capital city in recognition of the role that the society and its members have played for the past 150 years,” said Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck, President of the NBMS.
The sculpture, named “Rendez-vous”, was commissioned by the Medical Society in celebration of its 150th anniversary. It was carved by abstract artist Catherine Leve from France as part of the 2016 Saint John International Sculpture Symposium. It has been placed on the waterfront in the province’s capital city.
“The small piece of granite was a way to create a window to see the river through the sculpture. You can also say the granite is the province’s physicians in relationship with the rest of the population, a part of the balance,” said the artist.
The Medical Society also commissioned a bench which sits adjacent to the sculpture, crafted by Maine artist Jessie Salisbury.
“We find it very fitting to have this sculpture placed by one of Fredericton’s many beautiful trails, as a nod to our current Top 3 in 10 campaign, which aims to place New Brunswick in the top three healthiest provinces within ten years,” said Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck. “After 150 years, we continue to build on our advocacy work and to protect the health of New Brunswickers.”
