Statement on today’s announcement from the Premier

New Brunswick’s doctors believe that today’s announcement from the Premier means that more doctors can perform abortions at more sites, which will enhance patient access to the procedure.

It will be very important for the government to properly resource the Regional Health Authorities in order to increase the capacity of New Brunswick’s hospitals to ensure they can adequately perform these services. Timely access to this medical procedure is critical for patients.

The recent debate over women’s reproductive health services in New Brunswick has pointed to the need for a new provincial plan for reproductive health. We wish to reiterate our call for such a plan and to extend the offer of New Brunswick’s doctors to work with the province to create it.
