Statement on nurse practitioners

“The New Brunswick Medical Society supports initiatives that will improve primary care access for New Brunswickers. We are encouraged to hear that the Department of Health and regional health authorities are adding 32 nurse practitioners in emergency departments and health clinics in the province. Nurse practitioners play a valuable role in health care in New Brunswick. We are eager to hear more information from government and the regional health authorities regarding how nurse practitioners will be implemented into emergency departments. Physicians should be engaged regarding these and other primary care decisions.”
