Statement on New Brunswick’s Path to Green
The New Brunswick Medical Society is cautiously optimistic regarding the end of all public health restrictions in the province on July 30. New Brunswick currently has a low COVID-19 case count, no hospitalizations, and rising vaccination rates. These are positive signs. To continue this trajectory, we encourage New Brunswickers who have not received their first or second dose of the vaccine to do so as soon as possible. Many jurisdictions, including New Brunswick, are seeing the majority of new cases among those who are either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. The vaccines are our best protection — as individuals and as a community — from the virus and its variants. As we enter this step of our new normal, we encourage citizens to continue following the lessons that helped keep us safe throughout the pandemic, including frequent handwashing and staying home if you are sick. New Brunswickers should also feel comfortable continuing to wear masks in public settings if they wish. These are steps that can mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the common cold, and other infectious diseases.
