Statement on Campbellton Regional Hospital

“The New Brunswick Medical Society is concerned about the capacity issues and closure of services at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. New Brunswick has the largest proportion of seniors in the country; without a clear plan to address their health-care needs outside of hospital, these unfortunate circumstances will continue to occur around our province. Government must make special care and nursing home beds more readily available and streamline the patient assessment and approval process to move a senior out of hospital. New Brunswick’s hospitals are routinely over capacity. As flu season approaches, this problem will only worsen. The NBMS has discussed these issues with the Department of Health and Department of Social Development and would be pleased to participate in any further discussions or action on this issue.”
