Statement from Dr. Dharm Singh on World No Tobacco Day

“As we mark World No Tobacco Day, we should be proud of how far we have come, and use this progress as motivation to continue lowering tobacco use in New Brunswick. Though we have come a long way, there is no doubt that tobacco use impacts many people in the province. Thirty percent of New Brunswickers were smokers in 1999, now, that number is 20 percent, however lung cancer remains the leading cause of avoidable mortality in New Brunswick. The New Brunswick Medical Society has a long history of advocating for stronger tobacco legislation to change this trend. As physicians, we encourage all New Brunswickers to choose a tobacco-free lifestyle so we can continue to support our patients in leading healthy, fulfilling lives.”
