Physicians strongly support mandatory vaccination for health-care workers

The New Brunswick Medical Society stands firm with the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nurses Association, and others in supporting mandatory vaccination for health-care workers. Physicians and other health-care professionals have a duty to protect their patients, each other, and their communities. This includes getting vaccinated against contagious viruses. We are disappointed to learn that the Quebec government has backed down from its vaccine requirement for health-care workers and that Ontario will also not require health-care workers to be vaccinated against the virus. We encourage the Government of New Brunswick to maintain its vaccine requirement for health-care professionals.

We know that vaccination combined with strong Public Health measures are our best defense against COVID-19. We are encouraged that the great majority of physicians — 98.6 per cent — have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and we encourage all New Brunswickers to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
