Physicians concerned with ongoing risks of COVID-19

FREDERICTON – With COVID-19 case counts rising once again, the New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) is launching a public awareness campaign to remind everyone that the virus is still very much present in our province.

“Reducing the spread of COVID-19 is in all our interest,” says Dr. Michèle Michaud, President of the NBMS. “Getting vaccinated and boosted, washing hands often, and wearing a mask when in crowds are simple measures we can all take to help us get back to normal sooner.”

While 85.5 percent of New Brunswickers have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, only 53.9 percent have received their first booster shot, and just 24.1 percent have received their second booster. Physicians are concerned about increased cases, hospitalizations, wait times, surgery cancellations, and the overall impact of the virus on the health-care system. We want to encourage all New Brunswickers to protect themselves, protect their communities and protect their health system.
