Common Fees at a Doctor’s Office

Medicare does not cover all services provided by physicians. Patients can expect to pay for medical or administrative services which are “not medically necessary”. These services are often time consuming and require involvement of office staff. Many physicians charge for the following:

  • Providing photocopies of charts or transferring a chart
  • Missed appointment fees
  • Immunizations and medical documentation for travel
  • Medical-legal reports provided in support of a lawsuit or other legal action
  • Employers notes
  • Insurance forms
  • Prescription refills by phone
  • Removal of non-cancerous skin lesions for cosmetic purposes
  • Annual physicals
  • Flu shots for otherwise healthy individuals between the ages of 18 and 65
