New Brunswick Medical Society recognizes Dr. Camille Haddad’s presidential accomplishments

FREDERICTON – The New Brunswick Medical Society bid farewell to Dr. Camille Haddad as his presidential term concluded Saturday in his hometown of Miramichi, during the Society’s Annual General Meeting. He will be replaced by Dr. John Whelan, a diagnostic radiologist in Saint John.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as President,” said Dr. Haddad. “It has been a great privilege to advocate for the interests of both my colleagues and my patients over the year.”

Among Dr. Haddad’s accomplishments is the expansion of the Make Menus Matter project, which this year included 46 per cent of the province’s students. The project also secured the commitment of the provincial government to serve healthier food in schools, and the Anglophone East School District has partnered with Really Local Harvest to serve more local produce in 25 Moncton-area schools.

“Make Menus Matter was a very exciting project, as we have really seen increased awareness of the food being served in school cafeterias since we completed it this year,” said Dr. Haddad.

Dr. Haddad was also involved in the Medical Society’s prominent efforts to promote the national Choosing Wisely Canada campaign, which encourages a conversation about unnecessary medical tests, treatments and procedures between physicians and patients. He also spoke at the well-attended Roundtable on Seniors Care, held recently in Fredericton.

“I’m confident Dr. Whelan will be able to pick up where I’ve left off on these issues, and he will handle well any future issues that come up during his presidency,” said Dr. Haddad.
