NBMS Supports Decision to Suspend Unvaccinated Physicians

The New Brunswick Medical Society strongly supports the decision of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick to suspend the licenses of any physician who remains unvaccinated without proof of a valid exemption as of December 1st. Valid medical exemptions include having experienced a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of a COVID vaccine, or having been tested and proven to have a severe allergy to any component of a COVID-19 vaccine. The NBMS notes that medical exemptions are rare and exceptional.

All patients in the province have a right to feel safe and protected when seeking healthcare, without fear that the person responsible for their welfare may be exposing them to unnecessary risk.

We remain acutely concerned about the rising number of covid cases in province. It is imperative that we do not let the virus overtake our healthcare system. We implore everyone, including physicians and all healthcare workers, to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
