NBMS encouraged by provincial budget
“The New Brunswick Medical Society is pleased to see that health care spending will increase 3.9% increase over 2019. The budget issued today is positive news for our challenged health system. We are particularly pleased to see $5 million investment in rural incentives for physicians, $5.5 million investment in mental health programs, $5 million to help Alternate Level of Care patients relocate from hospital beds to more appropriate care facilities. The addition of an Immunization Registry and free flu vaccinations for all New Brunswickers are both important changes in preventative health care. With the provincial government committing new dollars for health care, we believe it incumbent upon the federal government to provide a top up to the Canada Health Transfer to support the rising costs of delivering health care to New Brunswick’s aging population.”
