On July 5th, 2018 the New Brunswick Medical Society released A Plan for Health Care in New Brunswick: Election 2018; our prescription for smarter health care in New Brunswick.
The plan includes three key changes to improve the province’s health care system including:
We are also asking for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Provincial Health Plan.
While progress has been made over the past four years, there is still much to be done to improve healthcare. The three key changes we are recommending surfaced during the engagement process with New Brunswick physicians late in 2017.
In May 2018, a public opinion survey on health issues was conducted to assess current public opining in New Brunswick related to key health care issues faming the province. The report highlights that 82 per cent of New Brunswickers identify having more family physicians as the most critically important funding priority in health care among other important issues.
This plan is a prescription for the six registered political parties to take note of as they develop and prepare to launch their platforms in advance of the provincial election on September 24, 2018.
We have developed a multi-channel campaign to reach candidates, media and voters with our messages including social media, opinion editorials in provincial and weekly newspapers throughout July and August.
We encourage you all to get involved in this process by hosting local meetings and debates and meeting with candidates to show them how important these issues are not only to physicians but to the improvement of healthcare in the province. To help with this, we would like the offer the services of our Member Engagement Officer Melissa Bates. She can help with event planning and facilitating these meetings. As we approach election season, I would appreciate any action you may be able to take to increase awareness of our plan. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
